Dragons Landing 2006
2006-12-31
A music and video package welcome you to Dragons Landing, transporting you head first into the arena
Kyoko: Welcome to Dragon Isle Joshi Pro Wrestling and Dragons Landing! This is going to be a slightly different show, as we will be looking at a few matches from the past year, rather than a single show. I am Kyoko Kuronaga, and with me as always is JC Spitfire.
JC: Good evening and welcome, people! Let's get right down to business... the first match pits the Lucha Angel Angelica Hyde against the debuting Yukiyasha. You could say that we have a classic match of good and evil, with the Angel facing the Demon.
Kyoko: Guess you can say that, JC. As fans of Dragon Isle Joshi know, Angelica Hyde is a very adept wrestler with high-flying and lucha submissions, having been trained in Los Angeles with LAWL, as well as quite a bag of tricks when it comes to other moves to get her by such as her Halo Bomb. And we don't know much about this Yukiyasha, this 'Snow Demon' supposedly from the mountains of Hokkaido, Japan. She is making her debut here at Dragon Isle Joshi tonight, but will she be able to overcome the high flying offense of Angelica Hyde? We'll have to find out...
JC: Let's get to the action!
Angelica Hyde vs Yukiyasha
One fall, 30 minute time limit
Referee: Eiko Yoshida
The music of Angelica Hyde is just fading. She is in the ring and, together with the crowd, awaits the arrival of her opponent, Yukiyasha.
Suddenly, the sound of an arctic wind howls from the speakers, 'snow' falling at the entrance ramp as the wind fades into a Japanese flute, merging into Yukiyasha's entrance theme, "Whistle in the Dark". She arrives, wearing a white traditional kimono and a demon mask. She pauses on the ring apron, staring down Angelica from behind the mask, and enters the ring.
She removes the mask and kimono, and both wrestlers take their places, getting ready for the match.
The bell rings, and we're off! The match starts slow, with a short staredown, and two are circling each other warily. Angelica is the first to strike, throwing a cautious punch, which Yukiyasha avoids. A kick to the thigh is blocked, and Angelica goes for another punch. Yukiyasha catches her with an arm drag! Angelica is quickly on her feet, and Yukiyasha circles her again. They lock up, and Angelica hits an arm drag of her own! Yukiyasha is quickly to her feet, and they lock up again, cautiously. Irish whip by Angelica, followed by a leap frog, and Angelica is on the move! Flying leg lariat! Yukiyasha gets to her feet and turns around, straight into a dropkick! Again she gets up, flying rollup pin! One! Two! Two count!
Angelica is grinning as Yukiyasha starts to get to her feet. She moves in for a grapple, and gets a backhanded slap across the face! Angelica staggers backwards, thrown off-balance by shock more than anything, and Yukiyasha follows, staring her down. Another backhanded slap across the face, followed by a side kick to the midsection! Yukiyasha goes for the irish whip, sending Angelica to the corner! Angelica staggers out of the corner, right into a waterwheel drop, followed by a jumping elbow drop! And Yukiyasha locks in a sleeper hold...
Angelica breaks out of the sleeper and gets to her feet, warily keeping her distance. Yukiyasha circles slowly, and the two lock up again, Angelica managing to catch her opponent with a single leg takedown. She bounces off the ropes behind her and hits a running footstop right to the midsection! She brings Yukiyasha up and sends her into the ropes with an irish whip, only to knock her down with a running cross chop. She picks her up again for another go, but Yukiyasha catches her with a neckbreaker! She covers... One, two, kickout at two!
They get to their feet at the same time, and Angelica goes for the lockup, but Yukiyasha manages to slip behind her, hitting a spinning backdrop! She picks Angelica up and sends her into the ropes... she slips around her on the rebound, spinning sleeper drop!
Yukiyasha drags her opponent to her feet once more, and prepares to launch her into the corner... reversal! Angelica pumps her fist in the air, and goes for the cartwheel elbow... but Yukiyasha quickly hops up to sit on the top turnbuckle, catching her opponent in a sleeper hold, and standing up! All Angelica can do is hold on to take some pressure off her throat and try to breathe!
Kyoko: She's got her in a hangman sleeper! Angelica is kicking, but she can't find a foothold. Referee Eiko has started the five count! Two! Three! Four! Finally, she lets go!
JC: A split second from getting disqualified, there... and did you see her staring a hole through the ref the whole time, too? Man...
Angelica falls to the mat, coughing and grabbing her throat. As she rises to her hands and knees, Yukiyasha jumps off the turnbuckle... Enzui Knee Drop! Angelica is down again! Yukiyasha grabs her by the hair and drags her to her feet... Northern Lights Bomb! She goes for the pin... 1 ... 2 ... Th-no! Angelica just kicks out!
Yukiyasha drags her opponent to her feet again, but Angelica hits her with an elbow to the midsection! She bounces back against the ropes and goes to hit a lariat! Yukiyasha ducks! Angelica comes off the ropes again, but Yukiyasha slips behind her and goes for another swinging sleeper drop? No, she holds on.. swinging sleeper!
Angelica struggles against the hold for a second, but she fades. The ref goes to check on her, but Angelica is out cold! Eiko calls for the bell, and this one is over!
Winner, by submission... Yukiyasha
Kyoko: Angelica is out! Yukiyasha targeted her neck for most of the match, building for that painful looking swing sleeper. First, she first started wearing her opponent down with a sleeper hold, and then worked her neck further with moves like that spinning sleeper drop...
JC: Don't forget that hangman's sleeper... I wish I could. Seriously, did you see her eyes when she was choking Angelica from the corner? And then that knee drop, right on her neck... Just cold, man. Just cold...
Kyoko: She almost got herself disqualified there, and she certainly did some damage... damage she only made worse with the Northern Lights Bomb. She almost pinned Angelica right there.
JC: Yeah... poor Angelica kicked out, but she was hurt bad enough that she couldn't withstand that swing sleeper.
Kyoko: Next up we have a match between Dragoness Azusa and Alex "Wolf" Kendall. Though usually they are not at odds, this year they came up against each other in the first round of the DI-J Annual Invitational tournament in October.
JC: Neither one of them ended up making it to the final round, but they still wrestled a very good match and showed great sportsmanship.
Kyoko: Alex "Wolf" Kendall is an accomplished technical wrestler from St Louis, Missouri, having wrestled the US indies before joining us in 2004. She utilizes an array of suplexes, including the Kendall Clutch, a bridging wrist clutch suplex that has won her many a match. She also knows many ways of making her opponents tap out, focusing mainly on the arms and neck, such as the "Wolf Trap" triangle lancer.
JC: And we cannot forget the fact that she has quite a following here in DI-Joshi... her most vocal fans calling themselves the Pack. That has to be a psychological advantage going into every match.
Kyoko: Absolutely. Her opponent is a Dragon Isle Joshi original, Dragoness Azusa. She hails from Tokyo, Japan, and was trained in the Dragon Isle Dojo before taking some time to travel to Mexico and honing her lucha skills.
JC: Make no mistake about it... she may be young, and not the most experienced, but that girl is fast and she sure can fly, as well as knowing her share of lucha submissions! This fact makes this match an interesting clash of styles... let's get to the action!
Alex Kendall vs Dragoness Azusa
SPOILER SPACE
END SPOILER SPACE
JC: She got her! Dragoness Azusa finally put that speed to some good use and caught Alex Kendall with a huracanrana which was just enough to get the three count.
Kyoko: Kendall looks winded, and a little surprised... but she offers her hand to Azusa. Looks like the match ends with a sportsman's handshake, and Kendall even raising Azusa's hand in victory. Certainly one of the better matches we had this year, wouldn't you say?
JC: It did set a high bar for the rest of the tournament to follow, at least.
JC: On to the next match, our last for the evening. This one has a bit more of a history. Tiger Queen and Kageneko had been tag team champions since the middle of 2005, and feuding with Malice Tsukimura and Serpent Miyuki for a good few months at this point, successfully retaining the belt in a series of title defenses. Finally, at the year end show of 2005 the tag team belts were on the line on a grand stage.
Kyoko: Serpent Miyuki is one of the ring veterans of DI-Joshi who has been a contender to the singles title a number of times. Here, she has allied with the young and upcoming Malice Tsukimura to contend for the tag titles. Miyuki is a skilled technical and submission wrestler, and certainly knows how to be underhanded when it suits her.
JC: That includes the "Venom Cloud" poison mist that you've felt the effects of a few times yourself, doesn't it?
Kyoko: Malice Tsukimura is more for a faster pace, bringing a good striking and flying game to the ring, as well as some high impact moves like her 'Malice Impact' falcon arrow. They go up against Kageneko and Tiger Queen, both with a similar style of strikes, high flying and submissions targetting the legs of their opponents. While Serpent Miyuki is the ring veteran of the four, the champions certainly have an edge experience-wise when it comes to teamwork, although Malice has had a few tag team partners in her short time with us as well.
JC: True, but we shouldn't forget that the champs have had their own share of trouble lately. They've traded wins with the challengers in singles matches, and there seems to be some tension between them after each loss, as Kageneko failed to stop the interference that cost Tiger Queen her match against Serpent Miyuki, and Tiger Queen answering by refusing to help her partner the week after against Malice Tsukimura. Kageneko still got the win by the skin of her teeth, but it certainly sent a message. Anyway, enough talking... it's time to go down to ringside and get to the action!
Kageneko / Tiger Queen vs Malice Tsukimura / Serpent Miyuki
One fall, 60 minute time limit
Dragon Isle Joshi Tag Team Championship Match
Referee: Yumiko Tachibana
The team of Malice Tsukimura and Serpent Miyuki come to the ring first to "Joker", Malice's music, with Malice going first and grabbing most of the attention, whilst her more experienced partner walks along behind her, looking far more composed and serious. Next, the champions come out to the ring to a loud cheer from the crowd. Tiger Queen points at the challengers, followed by gesturing to the tag belts and saying something as she and Kageneko approaches the ring. Inside the ring, the champions take a corner each, posing for the crowd on the turnbuckles as the challengers stand back. They move over to the other side and do the same there, but as they pose for the crowd this time the challengers attack - Serpent Miyuki sends Tiger Queen over the ropes to the floor with a dropkick as Malice springboards off the second rope, catching Kageneko as she turns around and bringing her to the mat with a sitout facebuster.
The referee calls for the bell and starts the match as Serpent Miyuki bounces off the ropes and slides out of the ring, catching Tiger Queen square in the chest with a baseball slide dropkick.
Malice immediately goes to work on the stunned and prone Kageneko with kicks to the legs and body, before picking her opponent up and sending her to the ropes for a deep arm drag, following up with a running dropkick to the face as Kageneko gets to her knees. Malice covers quickly for a bare two count.
Kageneko gets to her feet, finding only an empty corner as Tiger Queen and Serpent Miyuki are still fighting on the outside. Malice rushes her only to be caught with an arm drag, and the two trade quick strikes and feints until Malice catches her opponent with a drop toe hold and drops the elbow on the back of the head. She drags Kageneko back to her feet, and goes for a suplex... Kageneko slips out, and hits a facebuster on Malice! Kageneko bounces off the ropes, tagging Tiger Queen as she goes past, and coming back with a somersault senton. Tiger Queen grabs the top rope... slingshot somersault leg drop! They pick Malice up for a double vertical suplex, and Kageneko leaves the ring as Tiger Queen locks in a half crab. Malice reaches out, barely fighting her way to the bottom rope and the rope break.
Tiger Queen cuts the ring off and goes after Malice's leg straight away, raining kicks to the knee and thigh, and sending Malice against the ropes for a low dropkick. Malice fights back with some strikes of her own until Tiger Queen catches a kick and snaps off a painful looking dragon screw!
Tiger Queen catches Malice as she gets up, and brings her over with a snapmare, followed by a dropkick to the back of the head. Malice gets to her feet again, this time getting caught with a double arm suplex. No, tiger driver! – one! Two! Malice barely kicks out of the pin and Tiger Queen drags her to her feet and sends her to the ropes with an irish whip, going for her tilt-a-whirl backbreaker, but Malice catches her with a flying headscissors! Malice is still feeling the effects of that tiger driver, only getting to her feet at the same time as her opponent. Malice snaps off a side kick at Tiger Queen, who catches her leg. Another dragon screw? Enzuigeri by Malice! She tries to get to her feet, her knee starts to fail, and she rolls to her corner, getting the tag to Serpent Miyuki.
Tiger Queen and Serpent Miyuki circle, sizing each other up before moving to lock up... Miyuki takes Tiger Queen over with a snap suplex, but Tiger Queen is quickly on her feet again and takes Miyuki down with a low dropkick. Tiger Queen goes on the offensive with a solebutt, setting Miyuki up for a DDT. Tiger Queen hops onto the nearest turnbuckle and signals to the crowd, sailing into the ring with a moonsault... nobody home! Miyuki rolls out of the way and gets to her feet, sending Tiger Queen staggering with a stabbing chop to the throat, followed by a neckbreaker. Miyuki tags Malice and drives Tiger Queen face first into the turnbuckle, locking in a rope assisted headscissors. Referee Eiko is counting, but has to jump out of the way as Malice comes charging in, catching Tiger Queen in the ribs with a flying knee strike, following up with a face buster as Miyuki lets go at the count of four. Malice tags Miyuki back in and goes to cut off Tiger Queen, but too late – she gets the tag to Kageneko!
Kageneko springboards off the top rope, catching Miyuki with a dropkick, following it up by whipping her into the corner and coming in after her with the stepup kick/backflip and dropping the elbow to the back of the neck. Kageneko pulls Miyuki to her feet in a front headlock... tiger chancre? Miyuki blocks it... northern lights suplex! Kageneko kicks out at two! Both are back to their feet. Miyuki goes for a suplex... blocked by Kageneko! Shadow Plunge brainbuster! One! Two! Th-kickout! Miyuki kicks out a hair away from the three count. Kageneko comes up behind her as she gets to her feet... is she going for a Blackkat (Tiger) Suplex? Miyuki catches her with a pair of back elbows, giving herself enough time to make the tag.
Malice comes in... welcomed by a dropkick right to the chest, stopping her in her tracks. Kageneko goes on the attack as she gets up and hits Malice with a kick to the midsection, going for a high screw kick... miss! She catches nothing but air, and stands right up into a slap to the face... KENTA Rush by Malice!
Kageneko ducks the backfist, catching Malice in a headlock... tiger spin! Kataclysm! Kageneko has the kataclysm locked in, Malice is reaching for the ropes... too far away. She's raising her hand to tap... Serpent Miyuki breaks it up!
Miyuki drags Kageneko to her feet and sends her into a corner, pointing Malice and to the adjecent corner before moving to lift Kageneko onto the turnbuckle. Malice goes to climb the turnbuckle, favouring one leg... Release northern lights suplex by Serpent Miyuki followed by a phoenix splash by Malice! Cover... one! Two! Th- Tiger Queen breaks up the three count at the last moment! Miyuki is back on her feet, straight into a vicious series of kicks by Tiger Queen, who grabs Serpent Miyuki and throws her out between the ring ropes. She signals the crowd... slingshot plancha – Venom Cloud! Tiger Queen launched herself face first into a cloud of green mist!
In the ring, Malice struggles to her feet, only for Kageneko to hit a low dropkick and drags her back to her feet in a headlock. Another tiger spin... Malice pushes her off, straight into a vicious-looking hook kick to the side of the head by Serpent Miyuki! Malice grabs Kageneko as she spins around and hoists her up... Malice Impact! One! Two! Three!
Winners by pinfall, and new tag team champions... Malice Tsukimura and Serpent Miyuki!
JC: -Three! We have new tag team champions! Tiger Queen is still clearing her eyes of that mist... she can't believe it!
Kyoko: The challengers saw an opportunity and grabbed it... and Tiger Queen was out of the ring and in no condition to break up the pin after her plancha backfired. Still, I'm amazed that Malice was able to hit that Malice Impact with her injured leg and get the pin.
The new champions back up the ramp, holding their titles high, Malice keeping a hand on her partner's shoulder for support and limping, clearly favouring her leg. Back in the ring Kageneko is getting to her feet, holding her neck after being dropped on her head by that Malice Impact. Tiger Queen, having cleared her eyes, is climbing into the ring. She's not looking happy... and she has a mic.
Tiger Queen: What the hell was that?! We've taken worse beatings than that and won... and when I get taken out of the ring for a moment, in the process of saving your hide, you go and lose our belts!
Kageneko just stares at her, using the ring rope to pull herself fully to her feet. She opens her mouth to answer, but Tiger Queen interrupts her with a backhanded slap, knocking her off balance and only holding onto the ring rope prevents her from falling to the mat.
Tiger Queen: I don't want to hear it! I'm tired of carrying you along to the gold only for you to drop the ball. You are a shame to this mask...
Tiger Queen pauses for a moment, and raises the mic again.
Tiger Queen: You don't deserve this mask. And I'm going to take it from you... I challenge you to a match, and the winner... gets to keep her mask. The loser... gets out of my face.
Tiger Queen throws down the mic and slides out of the ring, heading up the ramp. Kageneko just stands there for a moment, before taking the mic.
Kageneko: You're on.
With those two words, she drops the mic leaves the ring, and we fade out as she makes her way up the ramp.
Kyoko: The two crossed paths a few times before that match, which ended badly for Kageneko.
A clip is shown with Tiger Queen planting Kageneko on her head with the Gold Stripe Suplex (Tiger Suplex '85), and Kageneko lying there, motionless. The referee checks on her, and calls for the medical team, stopping the match. Before the medics get there, Tiger Queen bends down and pulls the mask off, leaving Kageneko face down and unmasked in the center of the ring.
JC: Fans of OG-Joshi or LAWL may have seen Kageneko in the past year - she took up a new mask and has been wrestling under the name of Kat Black. We wish her the best of luck there, and await her return to our ring...
Kyoko: That was all we had for you tonight, ladies and gentlemen. We look forward to seeing you again in several shows during 2007. Until then...
JC: Thanks for watching, and you can see the lovely Kyoko Kuronaga and the Spitfire again at the next Dragon Isle Joshi show, so stay tuned.
