Dragons Beltaine 2007
2007-04-30
*Music and a blast of pyro signal the start of Dragons Beltaine*
Kyoko: Good evening and welcome once again to Dragon Isle Joshi Pro, and Dragons Beltaine. I'm Kyoko Kuronaga, and with me as always is JC Spitfire.
JC: Welcome back, wrestling fans! Summer is just about kicking off, and to celebrate this we have a great show for you. We have a total of five matches coming your way tonight, including a tag team match and an offer match from Los Angeles Women's Lucha, or LAWL as they're more commonly known.
Kyoko: That's right, Angelica Hyde will be taking on the LAWL OMG Champion, Ruby Moreno, in a non-title bout here a little later on. Although Dragon Isle fans will be no strangers to Angelica, she was in fact trained in LAWL well before coming here, and has recently gone full circle and wrestles there again.
JC: And if you just can't get enough of the Angel, she'll be in action again next week in Los Angeles, when she teams up with Kat Black and Alicia Gordon to take on LMAO at LAWL's "Spring SniffLAWLes" show. If you're in the area, you should definitely see the show, and if not I dare say that DVD looks exceLA-... ExceLAWL-... Pretty darn good.
Kyoko: But well before that, we should look to the excellent show right now! First up tonight is Carey Ravin and one half of the DI-Joshi tag team champions, Serpent Miyuki.
JC: As you might know, there has been bad blood between Carey and HAVOC ever since the Dragon Isle Joshi Annual Invitational last year. Carey has been hot on their heels ever since, and last month she finally got into the same ring with Eris in a triple threat match, also involving DI-Joshi newcomer Meifeng. Carey won the match, but in the confusion at the end she got the wrong target and locked in the Ravin Wings on Meifeng, injuring her shoulder. Eris ducked out of the ring again before Carey could get to her, so I don't think that's over by a long shot.
Kyoko: Absolutely. However, Eris Byrne is overseas right now competing in OG-Joshi, so she backed out on facing Carey. Instead, Carey will be going up against the veteran member of HAVOC, Serpent Miyuki. Miyuki, much like Carey, is a specialist in arm submissions. She is also known to fight underhanded whenever she can get away with it, so Carey will have to use all of her ring experience to keep up with her here.
JC: Not only is Miyuki the current tag team champion, but when she won that belt she was also the reigning AI Cup holder, a tournament where I believe she beat you in the finals. Isn't that right?
Kyoko: That's right, yes. While she is underhanded and sneaky, you shouldn't forget that she is also a very accomplished technical wrestler. She can beat most people without a single illegal move, if she only puts her mind to it. Let's see how she will stand up against Carey Ravin.

JC: It's over! Carey countered that attempt at the Queen Cobra and was getting really fired up, and right out of nowhere - WHAM! Miyuki got her.
Kyoko: Definitely one of the things that makes her so dangerous... you think you have her cornered, and she'll get you out of nowhere with a move like that Serpent Clutch Suplex.
Miyuki slides out of the ring, grabs her tag belt and starts up the ramp... getting almost to the top until Carey catches up from behind with a running dropkick! Carey mounts her and goes for a strike, but Miyuki slips out from underneath. Carey turns... Venom Cloud! Carey stumbles back with a face full of green mist and goes down hard to a dropkick to the knee. Miyuki picks up her fallen belt again, as the rest of HAVOC arrive from back stage, Hailey Stone and Styx commencing the beatdown. Carey fights back, but is taken down again by Hailey Stone with a vicious lariat from behind. Malice Tsukimura directs them to get her back up, and backs up to the entrance for a running start...
What the hell? Someone just grabbed Malice from behind and launched her backstage with one hell of a german suplex! Alex Kendall (that's who!) gets to her feet to a huge cheer as the Jacquelyn-Hyde Connection rush out on either side, taking Hailey and Styx down with a pair of dropkicks! Security has finally gotten the hint and are spilling out en masse, as is part of the locker room, and the brawl is finally pulled apart and reduced to a shouting match, challenges being thrown back and forth.
JC: This is... I almost feel bad for saying it, but this is pure havoc out here! Looks like things are finally calming down a bit, and hopefully we can go on with the show...
Kyoko: Hang on... we're getting word from the back. Looks like we have an extra match because of this! Alex Kendall and Angelica Hyde are already set to wrestle tonight, but it looks like Jacquelyn Archer is getting her wish. Styx is stepping forward for HAVOC, and because of the brawl that just broke out, the rest of them are being banned from ringside.
JC: I hope Lyn knows what she's doing, here. Styx is no pushover, she very nearly won the 2006 AI tournament.
Kyoko: Styx is definitely someone to watch out for. She may not be as big as Hailey Stone, for example, but she can overpower most wrestlers with sheer brutality.
JC: She's certainly not one for the finer points of technical wrestling, but that never stopped her from kneeing someone in the face 'til they stop moving. Lyn Archer is going to have to use all her speed and technical skill to keep up with her here. Looks like we're about ready to start the match... let's get to the action.

Kyoko: Three! Lyn Archer kept up pretty well with Styx throughout that match, and even went to match her in power moves... but she got caught. And once Styx managed to hit the Bloody Goodnight, that proved enough to keep Archer down for the three count.
JC: That could have gone either way easily enough... and looks like Lyn has enough presence of mind to get out of the ring, too.
Jacquelyn Archer slides out of the ring, keeping an eye on Styx until she has sufficient distance between them, and heads backstage. Styx watches her go with a sneer, and then leaves the ring to follow.
Kyoko: Next up it is time for our special Offer Match. As part of Dragon Isle Joshi's association with Los Angeles Women's Lucha, they will now bring us a special offer match. One of the match participants we have already seen tonight - our very own Angelica Hyde.
JC: This might be a bit strange, but Angelica is trained in LAWL originally. And who knows how LAWL's desicions are made. Still, if you disregard the fact that Angelica wrestles here anyway, she is certainly not a bad choice for the match.
Kyoko: Her opponent, however, is none other than the LAWL OMG Champion, Ruby Moreno!
JC: The ... OMG ... Champion?
Kyoko: It stands for the "Opulent Major Golden" Title, and is the premier singles title in LAWL. Ruby Moreno has held the title for over a year, when she defeated Marie Reyes for it.
JC: We should point out that Ruby Moreno's OMG Title will not be on the line on this match, but even getting the match certainly tells us that Angelica is doing well in Los Angeles. Interestingly, Ruby Moreno is perhaps an unusual choice to represent a Lucha promotion.
Kyoko: That's true. I have seen Ruby Moreno in action, and while very impressive, she's not your typical luchador. In fact, her style is definitely more based on ground work and technical wrestling than on the high flying you might expect. In particular, she is skilled in leg work, including her signature Quartz-tortion submission, which is quite similar to Angelica Hyde's Nowhere to Hyde. But watching your legs isn't enough, as she'll just as easily put you away with deadly moves like the Quartz Cutter and Ruby Frosion.
JC: She's definitely a serious contender, and it'll be interesting to see how well Angelica does against her. And speaking of which, it looks like the match is just about to start. Let's get to the action...

Kyoko: A valiant effort on Angelica's part, certainly. But Ruby Moreno shows us what being a champion is all about, and Angelica has no choice but to tap out.
JC: An impressive performance by both of them, certainly! Ruby certainly shows her skill and experience, too. Angelica managed to hit the Halo Bomb towards the end of the match, but Ruby had the presence of mind to grab the bottom rope, not even wasting any energy on kicking out. Angelica had already kicked out of that cross legbreaker earlier in the match, but Ruby had it on so well that another escape really wasn't on the card.
Kyoko: You have to take into account that Angelica has a big match at the LAWL show next week, too. But even if that wasn't the case, I doubt the outcome would have been different.
In the ring, Angelica slowly gets to her feet as the crowd is cheering the effort of both wrestlers. She points to Ruby and gestures to the crowd, urging louder cheers which come immediately. She then drops down, rolls under the bottom rope and heads up the ramp, limping slightly, leaving Ruby to take in the cheer and adoration of the crowd alone.
JC: Now, before our next match, we have a special announcement made by no other than Dragon Isle Joshi co-owner Ilsa Nogaard.
Appropriately, Ilsa Nogaard has entered the ring. She bows to the crowd and smiles, before gesturing for silence.
Ilsa: Thank you! I know you came here to watch some wrestling, so I'll try to keep this brief... and I think you'll like what I have to say.
Ilsa: As you know, we have but one title that can be challenged for outside the Annual Invitational, and that is the Dragon Isle Joshi Tag Team Championship. However, we have plenty of talented girls to go up against HAVOC, and what better way would there be to decide the number one contenders? This summer, we will hold a tag team tournament - any team will be allowed entry, established or newcomers... except, of course, for the champions themselves. Teams have one month to sign up, and should we get an uneven number, then some teams, randomly chosen, will get a bye to the tournament while others have to qualify. And we will start the qualifying matches... next show! The grand prize will be a guaranteed title shot, at a show of their choosing, no matter who the current champions are.
Ilsa: I'm looking forward to an exciting tournament... and I hope, so do you!
Ilsa bows again to the crowd and leaves the ring, heading up the ramp.
Kyoko: You heard her... we'll have a big tournament this summer, which could even rival the intensity of the Annual Invitational that will follow it come autumn.
JC: Should be great, if you ask me. But most interestingly will be to see what teams will step forward and what alliances will form... this should prove to be exciting times for DI-Joshi's tag division.
Kyoko: But right now it is time for our next match... Daciana Boroi will be in action, against a woman who might have problems finding a new partner for the upcoming tournament - Tiger Queen.
JC: This will be the first time in a long time we see Tiger Queen in the ring - most importantly, she knocked out her previous tag team partner, Kageneko, and claimed her mask. Kageneko, now Kat Black, has also not been seen here since, though many of our fans will no doubt know that she has been wrestling overseas.
Kyoko: Back to the match at hand, Tiger Queen is a very dangerous individual who is adept at high flying, striking and technical wrestling. Her opponent, Daciana Boroi, is more of a newcomer to Dragon Isle Joshi, having only made her debut last August. In her time here however, she has shown us an impressive mixture of power, speed, and technical ability. Though this will no doubt be a difficult match for her, Tiger Queen could not afford to look past her...
JC: It will definitely be an interesting mix of styles... and seeing as the match is about to start, it looks like Tiger Queen is celebrating her in-ring return with some new gear... and she brought her, erm, friend...
Tiger Queen is making her way down the ramp to the ring, ignoring the scattered cheers and louder boos from the crowd. Hanging from her left hand is an empty black tiger mask, which she hangs on the corner post before jumping nimbly over the top rope and into the ring. She turns, and waits as Daciana Boroi makes her way down to the ring... and this match is underway!

JC: A valiant effor by Daciana, surely... and an even more impressive return to the ring by Tiger Queen.
Kyoko: She's definitely more vicious than we have seen her before, but Daciana fought back well and used her power to maximum advantage. In the end, though, it was technical skill that won Tiger Queen the match, as she got Daciana over with the Queen Tiger Bomb for the three count.
JC: I'm surprised that she doesn't seem to be going for a post-match attack, either... but I won't pretend I can figure out what goes on in the head of that girl. She's loco, I tell ya...
Kyoko: Well, I won't argue with you there... but it doesn't seem to hamper her wrestling skills, I'll say that much.
Kyoko: And now it's time for tonight's tag team match, and the debut of a new wrestler.
JC: Eimi Sawada, a bit of a newcomer herself, will be teaming up with HOTARU to take on the Jiminez Sisters.
Kyoko: We don't know that much about HOTARU yet, except that she is a luchador, trained mainly in Japan... so we can probably expect her style to have some influence of the Japanese style as well.
JC: Not much more to say about her at this point, except she seems to have a thing for butterflies... as can be seen by the large butterfly design on her mask, as well as signature moves like the Butterfly Suplex. To my knowledge, she and Eimi haven't teamed together before, althogh it is possible that they did so earlier in their young careers.
Kyoko: They'll need good teamwork to go toe to toe with the Jiminez Sisters, so let's hope so. Silvia and Tonia come fresh off a loss last show to the Jacquelyn-Hyde Connection, and we can assume that they'll probably want to enter the tag tournament, so they'll certainly look to gain some momentum here.
JC: Will they be successful? The match is about to start, so let's find out...!

JC: Chalk one up for the Jiminez Girls here, it's over!
Kyoko: Both teams showed us some pretty good teamwork here, but in the end HOTARU gets caught by Silvia Jiminez in a nasty-looking submission hold and taps out. I'm surprised here that the newcomers kept up so well with the sisters.
JC: Definitely a worthy effort, despite the loss... it wouldn't surprise me if we'll see both these teams going for the gold, and I'm looking forward to seeing HOTARU in the future, in singles or tag team action.
Kyoko: With experience, both teams will only get better...
Kyoko: Next up is our main event of the evening. The Wolf, Alex Kendall, will take on Dragon Isle's own ninja, Kurohoshi.
JC: Kurohoshi has been feuding with fellow newcomer Daciana Boroi for the last several months. It will be interesting to see how well she can apply that to a technical wrestler with more experience. Alex Kendall certainly doesn't have the power of Daciana Boroi, but she certainly has the technical skill and years of experience as a professional wrestler. And listening to the reaction as she makes her way to the ring, the Pack is here in force tonight!
In the ring, Alex Kendall has just climbed a turnbuckle and points into the crowd, which responds with loud cheers and scattered howls.
Kyoko: Still, Kurohoshi should certainly not be dismissed easily. She's got the speed and striking game to keep up with Kendall, and the Wolf will have to keep on her toes... Kurohoshi can be an incredibly cunning opponent.
JC: Well, we're just about to see how far that cunning will carry her... time for the main event!

JC: -three! Kurohoshi isn't the only cunning one, as the Wolf catches her off-balance with a rollup for the three count!
Kurohoshi is first to her feet, and as Alex Kendall stands up she throws something... salt?! Kurohoshi bounces off the ropes and takes the blinded Kendall down with a running kick.
Kyoko: Damnit... hang on, looks like someone was expecting this!
Daciana Boroi runs down the ramp to the ring, sliding in. Kurohoshi meets her with a kick, but Daciana takes her down with a tackle. Alex Kendall is back to her feet, and Kurohoshi decides the odds aren't as good anymore, ducking under a lariat and sliding out of the ring. She backs up the ramp as Daciana and Kendall are left standing in the center of the ring. They look at each other for a moment, nod, and Daciana raises Kendall's hand high in victory to another series of howls from the Pack members in the crowd and cheers from the rest.
JC: Ah, that's good to see... we hope you have enjoyed watching the show, and we will see you again next month. This is the Spitfire, with me as always was the lovely Kyoko Kuronaga, and you have been watching Dragon Isle Joshi. Good night, and thank you for watching!
